Why should I take this Workshop?
This course is meant for the serious beginner to intermediate artist. Participants should have a good grasp on how to use watercolor, basic drawing skills, and a good understanding of values.
The focus of this course is understanding color and how to use it to your advantage as a watercolor artist.
As artists, we love color. We love the bright and vibrant, as well as the subtle and understated. However, learning to paint with color can be overwhelming, especially when you are just starting. You are faced with several questions, including… What colors should I use? What color am I looking at? How can I mix that color? Just buying paint can be stressful. There are so many hues to choose from. Sometimes taking a workshop can add to the confusion because every artist uses a different palette, has their favorite colors, as well as ones they would “never use”. You might end up buying twenty or more paints and still not know how to use them. Where do you start?

The way to learn color confidence, build a personalized palette, and use the full power of color is to start simple and build as you gain experience. Painting with a limited palette is a great way to do this. During this 10-Day Online Mini-Course, Brienne will teach you the power of color choices, explain some important color theory concepts, and give you tips on color mixing with watercolor. We will meet 4 times through Zoom, where Brienne will give instruction and demonstrations about using a limited palette of colors. She will then assign independent work for you to turn-in for feedback. Brienne will conduct group critiques online for feedback and then end the workshop with more demonstrations and answer any questions students have.
